This is a pretty cool image. I see an astronaut calling out for help and an approaching turtle/serpent with alien riders. Will they be friend? foe? Who knows. Its a pretty cool picture though.

Men raising a flag on the moon? Preposterous!

I would like to point out that this illustration was published a little over a year before anyone first landed ANYTHING on the moon.  It would be over 10 years before a human would arrive there. To the readers, this illustration was every bit fiction. While Virgil’s vision of the space ships we would send may have been fairly off, his depiction of the astronauts wasn’t too bad. Actually, I think NASA could’ve used a bit more color.

This one is full of Freas’ artwork, a great selection of illustrations. This specific cover makes me think about how easily we could get confused on the pet/owner relationships of our alien friends if they were’nt so obviously humanoid/birdoid.
